Arkansas BullWhips
handmade by JR Barnett
J.R. Barnett has turned his lifelong love and hobby of whip-making into a source of income in retirement. His older brother taught him to 4-braid at 9 years old and over time J.R.'s skills have developed while making whips and horse tack. Whips were always his love, but about 8 years ago the cane handle developed and the Arkansas Bullwhip was born.
The light, quick crackling, nylon whip became very popular with the day work cowboys, because of durability and the flashy colors made it easier to find in the pasture if lost. J.R. does a lot of custom braided whips with a variety of colors including your ranch colors, and neon colors to use in rodeo and blacklight stage performances. These whips are treated to seal out moisture and sand, thus keeping the whip light and fast, giving it a good quick crack.
J.R, does repair work and is always willing to talk cracking methods. To talk whips, call him at 501-336-5909. He is probably in his rocking chair in front of the fireplace, braiding a whip. |
